The quilt Grandma Verna made...

I've posted a couple of quilts that my Grandma Alyne made, but I've never posted a picture of the quilt that my Grandma Verna made for me and my sister and I can feel her bugging me to do that, so I had Jay hold it up for me yesterday. Here it is in all of it's Red & White glory....

Maybe it was the start of my love for red and white???? I also noticed for the very first time, I think, that there is a mistake in the quilt....see it on the right side, there's a block turned the wrong way. I've made a similar quilt...tessellating stars or something like that...and it's easy to get things turned wrong. As far as I know Grandma only made and finished 2 quilts, this one and one for my brother and it was in the late 1970's. Her mother was a quilter and I have several quilt tops made by her. I have the quilt right now because until just recently my sister wasn't into quilting or quilts...but she is now! I converted her!!!

Here are the 2 Nearly Insane blocks I made this weekend.

I had so much trouble with the first one....not sure why, but it went together better after I changed background fabric. It's still a little wonky, but it will work. I've been binding a couple of quilts and I started an Autumn stitchery for a pillow.
Thank you for all of the good wishes for the birthday girl....she had a great weekend. Oh boy this week should be a doozie, but I've got the house in order and food in the fridge and freezer so we'll be good here. I may even get to fit in some sewing....we'll see.

Interesting that your grandma made a red & white quilt...now you're makeing a red and white NI quilt...a coincidence or a connection?

I never did notice that mistake before Ranette. It made me smile when I saw it. This would have made Grandma happy, you showing her quilt on your blog. Your NI blocks our beautiful. Keep at it!!! Maybe you did get your love of red and white from Grandma's inspiration....

I LOVE red and white, too. I hope to make one someday, but not an insane one like the one you're making.

What a beautiful quilt, I know the pattern intimately! Thanks for the link to the Dovo's. You can never have enough scissors.
