Goodies in the mail....

 

Look at the wonderful package that I received from Dawn today!!! I won a contest over at her blog and these are goodies she brought back from Market. Thank you so much Dawn, you are more than generous!

I will be reading the magazines today while I sit on a heating pad because I hurt my back yesterday bending down to brush my teeth. How silly is that...lol??? It happens every now and again and I'll be good as new in a few days I'm sure. I've got to because Emily and her boyfriend Joe are coming this weekend for a few days. We were going up to see her, but plans changed. We'll go in a few weeks I'm sure.

That's about it for now. Hopefully I'll be posting pictures of my Mom's flower basket quilt all quilted and bound. Oh I did get my first Aunt Millie's block prepped for applique, not an easy task for sure. Also I'm back to embroidering a bit.

If anyone has any ideas on what I can make with these lovely fabrics please let me know. I just love them, but I cannot figure out what to make out of them. Where did last week go???

Really...does anyone else in the world think that time is speeding up? It is for me in a big way. I was sick with allergies/a cold last week so that probably stole some time away. When I wasn't laying on the couch zonked out I did work on one of the applique blocks for a quilt I'm making, Nana's Nosegays I think it's called.

I also bought some new shoes

My daughters think they look like baby shoes...I don't care though, I like them.

I also started on a new queen size quilt for my bed

My friend Kathy is making this quilt too and we cut it out on Tuesday. Let me tell you it was a lot of cutting! I haven't done that in a long time with all of the small projects I do (DJ, NI, BOM's) that turn in to big quilts eventually. This was work...lol...but we had fun anyway and the blocks are making up pretty quick.

Yesterday was a beautiful, beautiful day here and today promises the same. I love it when the humidity is low. I feel so much better. How can humidity make you feel so bad? I should google it I guess.

The flower basket quilt is done!!!

 

Yipee! I was really ready to be finished with this quilt. I did enjoy making it, but it is all hand done in the buttonhole stitch and I was starting to get a little tired of it. I think the sides are wavy because of the way my daughters are holding it...at least I hope that's why. If not, my quilter can quilt it out....lol

Yesterday was a wonderful day spent playing with fabric, sewing a little, cleaning up the sewing room and eating wonderful Mexican food prepared by my hubby and my girls. The only way that it could have been better is if Emily had been here as well, but she has finals this week (darn KU)and needed to be home to study. I'll see Em in a couple of weeks and it will be a fun weekend.

It looks like another rainy day today....I'm going to quit talking about the weather because I'm sounding like a broken record. I know that I'll be praying for this rain come July, so I'm just trying to keep on going.

Here's a pretty bouquet of Peonies for your viewing pleasure. I actually cut them from a neighbor's yard. Well it's an empty house across the street and I don't think that the older lady that lived there would mind. She's gone to live with her daughter in Texas now, so I think she'd be happy that I am enjoying her lovely flowers. I do have peonies in my yard, but they're white and they already bloomed and are done.

I cannot wait to dive in to both of these quilts. I have to dig out my stash of Fasset fabrics and see what I have to go with what I bought Friday. I know that I still need to order backgrounds for both of these quilts. The basket quilt is a bit daunting to me, but I think I can do it.

Hopefully later today I'll show you the finished top I've been hand stitching on for my Mom. I'm almost there...almost and then to get it to my LA quilter so she can do her magic on it.

I hope all Mothers will be especially Blessed today since this is Mother's Day in the United States. I plan to be :o)

It's still raining here...

Just thought I'd let everyone know....it's still raining....it's really, really wet outside and starting to feel pretty damp inside...lol The positives that come with all of this rain are that everything is green and growing (including the weeds), we don't have to run the air conditioning because it's so cool, can't really get out and work in the yard so more time for quilting...lol We did see the sun for about 2 hours yesterday and then it poured.

I haven't been working on anything except the borders to the basket quilt so I'm going to show some pictures of a couple of quilts that I'm going to make from patterns by Darcy Ashton, an Oklahoma pattern designer and quilt maker. Very nice lady and the eyes on her animals are the best.

This picture is of a baby quilt that I think is just so cute. I have everything to make the quilt, but it's one I'm going to make for someday when I have grand kids (not for a long time, I hope).

Look at the little details on the bunnies. I've seen this done in large florals (no picture though) and it's just as cute. My friend Sharon really likes the batik backgrounds on this quilt. I love the small blocks in the bunnies and will probably do it in Civil War Repros. Here's a close up of the detail.

 

I'm going to go and try to dry my hair now. We'll see how that goes...remember I told you that it's damp here!

Rain, rain go away!

I'm tired of the rain....really tired. I think it's rained everyday for at least a week here. Actually I don't even think it's so much the rain as the gloominess that comes with it. Maybe next week will be nicer! Although the flowers, trees and grass love the rain and everything looks lovely in the front yard!

So since it was rainy and yucky out yesterday I figured I would spend the day in my sewing room, even though I didn't have much energy. Well have you ever had one of those days when you should just quit?!? I made a janiebright block to start with and that went really well. So started work on another one...and it still isn't made...it's in the trash. I'm so frustrated!!! Now this is a block that I've made before and I don't remember having any trouble the first time. Maybe I'll run back upstairs in a little while and look at it again with fresh eyes this morning.

I even took a break while trying to figure out the above mentioned block and I made this

I only made one block as a test block to see if I liked it or not (i do) and to see if I still knew how to sew correctly. My friend Kathy and I will be starting this project for real in a few weeks, probably.

Well I'm off this afternoon for a "Tea" at my Mom's church and a stop in at a college graduation party for a young lady that works for me. The only plus side to today is that my daughter Kara is going with me and we'll get to visit in the car.
