Bedlam!!!

Today's a big, BIG day in Stillwater, Oklahoma!!! The OU Sooners come to town to challenge the OSU Cowboys!!! This is the game to win let me tell ya. It will be a busy, busy day at the store that I manage. Yesterday was a great day as well as people were already in town getting ready for the game. I'll let you know how we did tomorrow IF I can drag myself off of the couch...lol

On to more important things, okay remember when my Mom came and I had her sewing??? Well here is the result of that day



It's pretty isn't it? The story behind this quilt is that 20 years ago my Mom made my sister a king size quilt like this, with my help and my Grandma's, for my sister for Christmas. It wasn't professionally quilted, I think we tied it and stitched in the ditch. My sister loved it and kept it on her bed. Well the next Christmas her place was robbed and they took the quilt, among other things. Well fast forward 20 years and I'm helping my Mom clean out her attic and I come across a box of scraps from the one and only quilt she's ever done. There's even a few finished basket blocks in there so I suggest that we put it together for Pam and have it quilted as a remembrance of the only quilt that my Mom has made. I hope that Pam likes it as I haven't heard yet.

I have another finished quilt that I put the binding on Thanksgiving day and I'll show pictures of that quilt tomorrow.

Geez.....

I didn't know that it had been so long since I had posted to my blog!!! Not too much going on around here except a really sick girl. My middle daughter Kara has been very sick with strep, yuck! She never felt much better after the bout with the stomach bug and finally last Thursday I got her in to see the doctor. Strep test came back positive so she opted for a shot of penicillin because the Dr told her that would knock it quicker. Okay, well my youngest daughter Allie started with the same symptoms Thursday night, called the Dr first thing Friday and they called in a scrip for her. Kara continued to get worse over the weekend, I'm talking 102 and 103degree fevers all day and all night. She's 18 and never has been that sick or run high fevers, so Monday I called the Dr and they called in a Z-pack which I hope kicks this. So far she's still too sick to do much except move from the couch to the big chair and back. Still running fever (not as high) and her throat, well lets just say it looks awful. Allie is doing better and never did get as sick.

All of this sickness has cancelled our Thanksgiving plans, which was to go to my Mom's, but I really don't want to take the chance that everyone will catch what Kara has or visa versa. Plus I don't think she'll be up to going in the car and then being around people. So I guess we'll stay here, which is fine.

My oldest daughter, Emily came home from college Monday evening. She's here until Friday afternoon when she'll go back to Lawrence because she wants to go to the big KU/MIZZOU game on Saturday. It's amazing that she's only been away from home 3 years but the family dynamics around here are so much different. Not better or worse, just different! ;o)

Sorry this post is so wordy...let me see if I can find a pretty picture to post as I haven't been working on much except the triangles for my DJ quilt. Oh I did get all of the red chimney's appliqued to the little houses quilt. I think I may hand quilt it, which I'm not very good at, but I can try, right?

I made this quilt which is "Tag Sale" by Miss Rosie's Quilt Co. out of Moda's Seaside Rose for my friend Mary for her 60th birthday. I've since made another one of these quilts out of the Miniatures Collection in red's, blues, tans and blacks. I think I've shown a pic of that one before, but I'm not sure. I love Miss Rosie's patterns and the look that these quilts have. Very good directions!!!

Hi...

Okay, remember that red and white quilt that was on the front of Quilt Sampler Magazine




Remember how I was trying hard to NOT order the kit. Well I didn't order the kit, but I did order this



I know, I know...bad girl. I did look for this fabric at every one of the quilt shops that I frequent and I couldn't find it anywhere. I will use my own stash of red and white prints for the rest of the quilt. Isn't it pretty??? I'll wait until after the first of the year to start on this because I have too many projects going right now.

I did get the little houses quilt top done and I'm working on appliqueing the red wool chimneys on. I think it's sooo cute, a little primitive for me but I like it!



I'm also working on a couple of secret projects....shhhh ;o)

I wish I could stay home and quilt all day, every day, but if I did that I probably couldn't afford to quilt...lol...so it's a vicious cycle isn't it?

Stomach flu

Yup...you guessed it...I got sick too! Very sick, violently sick...I came down with it on Thursday afternoon, Kara came down with it in the night Thursday night and I got a call from Jay Friday night and he had it as well. He left Thursday for a week in Mexico (it's a work thing & I could have gone) so he's been stuck in his suite feeling like crap.

I didn't start to feel human again until midday Saturday. I couldn't even do any handwork and I never just do nothing. I was so mad at myself because I had my quilting projects all lined up to work on while hubby was away. I did get to work on one little project yesterday afternoon and here's a little sneak peek...



It's just a little quilt so hopefully I'll finish putting it together today. I painted on the doors and windows which is something I've never done before. The pattern is riddled with mistakes, doesn't that just irritate the snot out of you?!?

Oh also other big news here...I received my SSCS present on Friday. I was too sick then to even give it any thought, but since I've been feeling better it's really been tempting me to open it. I now know that my secret santa is Linda Mengo from Italy...how exciting is that? Oh it just dawned on me that I can go to her blog and get to know her, Yeah! Here is a picture of my box



I'm going to try really hard not to open it until Christmas ;o) Anyway Thank you very much Linda, I'm sure that I will love what you made.

Sick day....

I'm home from work today...not because I'm sick, but because my youngest daughter woke up at 2:00 am throwing up. I'll spare you the gory details, but just know that my washer and dryer haven't stopped running since. Apparently there is a BAD stomach flu going around Stillwater and she has it. Hopefully hubby won't get it as he leaves in about 24 hours for a week long trip to Mexico.

I scrounged around and found some flannel and I think I'll whip up a flannel quilt for my child to snuggle in. I love with quilts....and food.

Baron

This is our family dog, Baron. Do you know how hard it is to get a good picture of a black dog? LOL Baron is a Miniature Schnauzer and he's almost 8 years old. He is a really great dog, very loving and very well trained. Hubby and I (mostly hubby) worked with him constantly when he was a puppy and it shows in how he behaves now. He never barks unless hubby is out of town and then he seems to be more protective in the evenings. So now you know about my dog...lol

Kind of a boring and nice weekend. I did get a rag quilt made for a nephew's birthday. Making rag quilts is not my favorite kind of quilting, but they are cuddly quilts and good for gift giving. I also cleaned my downstairs sewing room because you know what sewing with flannel does to everything around it.

The sew day last week went fine. My middle daughter had two classes cancelled, so she decided to join us and that was a bit stressful for me at times. I am thrilled that she loves quilting though. Then my Mom had to stay Thursday night because a big storm rolled in (over 3" of rain) and I didn't want her driving in that. I think that she did really well considering this was her first anniversary without my Dad.

I'm going to leave you with a picture of the quilt that I made my oldest daughter for her 18th birthday because it's cheerful and pretty.
