Add steak fajitas, homemade flour tortillas, guacamole, chips and a couple of coronas with lime and you've got a party at my house!

Busy sewing

I have been busy sewing in the week since I last posted. I can't seem to get everything done that I want to get done, so blogging takes a back seat to sewing. Here is what I've been working on this week.

 

I've got all of the pieced blocks done, plus one...not sure how I did that, but I'll put it on the back I suppose. Now I've got to prep and stitch 4 more applique blocks and put it together. This quilt has a real vintage feel to it and I'm excited to get it done and snuggle with it.

Tuesday was guild day and Fran (can't remember her last name) was there with a trunk show. I took tons of pictures but none really turned out very well. The camera kept focusing on other things. It was operator error I'm sure, but here is one picture that isn't too bad.

 

Fran's sense of color is just wonderful isn't it? And her applique is perfect. She did give a workshop the next day, but it was on something other than applique, so I didn't take it.

I'v also been busy taking my youngest daughter for Driver's Ed everyday. Can't believe my baby will be 16 in just over 2 months. Have I mentioned that I have a new helper in my sewing room? Well I do and here she is

 

I don't really like her name, Samara, so I just call her Kitty. She looks like she's helping doesn't she...lol This picture is right behind, almost under my little sewing machine. My room is a mess again so I need to get it cleaned up very soon.

T-shirt quilt....done!

Together my friend Sharon and I made Leigha a t-shirt quilt. Sharon put the top together and I quilted it and bound it. Leigha graduated from college a couple of weeks ago and she's also worked for me at the store for the last three years. We don't usually make quilts for the kids that leave, but Leigha is pretty special. We wanted her to remember us and all of the t-shirts that she folded through the years.
In the picture Leigha is the dark haired girl and my daughter Kara is the blond.

 

I was also able to make 3 Nearly Insane blocks today...yeah! I think that I'm caught up for now.

 

 

 

These little blocks are so addictive that I may have to go make a couple more...lol
I'm hoping to put the ones I do have made up on the design wall so I can see them all at once.

I did get one Dear Jane triangle done this week at DJ group, but I haven't taken a pic of it yet. In fact I don't think I've got picture of any of the second row which is almost done. I'll try for that tomorrow.

Have any of you quilters/hand stitchers out there noticed your hands getting old? I looked at my pointer finger on my right hand tonight (actually it caught my eye) and realized it was looking like my Grandma's finger. Kind of bumpy and crooked. I'm only 48 but my hands look older, I think.

Speaking of getting older, my oldest daughter turns 21 on Tuesday! How can that be??? Time really flies when you're having fun, doesn't it?!

Flower Basket Quilt.....Done!

Here it is, the Flower Basket Quilt for my Mom

 

I am sorry for the terrible picture. I was being hurried while I took it and I think that my camera was on the wrong setting. The quilting that Linda did on it is just wonderful, as usual. I think my Mom is planning on hanging this quilt. She cried when I gave it to her...lol I'm not sure why because I've given her many quilts through the years. Oh well I'm glad she likes it.

We had a great day yesterday. Both of our Moms came and my Mom brought her friend Marjie with her and all three girls, plus Emily's boyfriend Joe, so we had a full house. Jay grilled steaks and I made twice baked potatoes, salad and rolls. Also I made a blackberry cobbler and Emily made a mayonaise cake and Kara brought a fruit pizza. So....much....food!!!! Lots of visiting...very good day!

If you have a chance to watch the movie Taking Chance on HBO I think, watch it. It's just a short movie, a little over an hour about a Colonal bringing the body of a fallen soldier back to his home town. Kevin Bacon plays the Colonal and he does a wonderful job. I hope that our country really does show the Fallen the respect that this movie shows that they do. If you do watch it, have the kleenex box very close.

My husband does a wonderful job with the flowers and the yard. I help sometimes, but he does most of it himself while I make quilts!
We are both still off work today, yeah, so maybe I can get in the sewing room for a little bit later.

Goodies in the mail....

 

Look at the wonderful package that I received from Dawn today!!! I won a contest over at her blog and these are goodies she brought back from Market. Thank you so much Dawn, you are more than generous!

I will be reading the magazines today while I sit on a heating pad because I hurt my back yesterday bending down to brush my teeth. How silly is that...lol??? It happens every now and again and I'll be good as new in a few days I'm sure. I've got to because Emily and her boyfriend Joe are coming this weekend for a few days. We were going up to see her, but plans changed. We'll go in a few weeks I'm sure.

That's about it for now. Hopefully I'll be posting pictures of my Mom's flower basket quilt all quilted and bound. Oh I did get my first Aunt Millie's block prepped for applique, not an easy task for sure. Also I'm back to embroidering a bit.

Where did last week go???

Really...does anyone else in the world think that time is speeding up? It is for me in a big way. I was sick with allergies/a cold last week so that probably stole some time away. When I wasn't laying on the couch zonked out I did work on one of the applique blocks for a quilt I'm making, Nana's Nosegays I think it's called.

I also bought some new shoes

My daughters think they look like baby shoes...I don't care though, I like them.

I also started on a new queen size quilt for my bed

My friend Kathy is making this quilt too and we cut it out on Tuesday. Let me tell you it was a lot of cutting! I haven't done that in a long time with all of the small projects I do (DJ, NI, BOM's) that turn in to big quilts eventually. This was work...lol...but we had fun anyway and the blocks are making up pretty quick.

Yesterday was a beautiful, beautiful day here and today promises the same. I love it when the humidity is low. I feel so much better. How can humidity make you feel so bad? I should google it I guess.
