It's Saturday...yeah!

Good morning, it's the weekend and I'm glad. No really big plans except to putter around the house. I probably will do some cleaning (I had to let my cleaning lady go) and maybe a little sewing and cooking. I'm going to pester hubby to get my Christmas village set up, I think. It's quite a job to do, but I think that I'll miss it if it's not up this year.

It's supposed to be very warm and windy this weekend and then turn really cold again tomorrow night...yuck. My middle daughter is scheduled for foot surgery on Wednesday morning and we're supposed to have really bad weather which wouldn't be that big of a deal if the surgery were in Stillwater, but it's in Oklahoma City which is about an hour from here. Snow would be fine if that's what the weather guys were forecasting but it's not, they're saying freezing drizzle for 3 or 4 days next week. I guess we'll just play it by ear and figure it out as it comes.

Here's the little wall hanging that I made Sharon for her birthday.



It's my first time at needle felting and it was a lot of fun to do. I ordered the kit from Quilter's Station. Very prompt service and the people are terrific to work with. You should check them out if you like primitives!

More Christmas decorations

Here's some more decorations to share with you all. Here's a place mat (1 of a set of six) that I made years ago. These are fun because they are the "quilt as you go" method.


The Christmas ornaments are from my family tree when I was young and the "antique" bulbs are from my Mom's tree when she was a girl.





I love the cardinal bulb and the santa bulb. I'd like to light them up but I'm afraid that it would ruin them and plus who knows what kind of toxins they are made of.

Here's the stocking that I had as a child. My sister's also said Sister and of course my brother's was Brother. I think my Mom made these, she's not very crafty...lol



I'd better go now and get ready for work...Happy Birthday to my friend Sharon (she doesn't have a blog yet). Let's party!!!

Christmas decorating

I love looking at other people's Christmas decorating on their blogs, so today I am going to show you my Christmas decorating. I'll start off with my Christmas/Winter quilt.


I think I made it 2 or 3 years ago with whatever new Moda 3 Sisters Christmas fabrics were out at the time. I had a really dense batting put in this quilt to keep me warm at night as my bedroom is pretty chilly in the winter. And I'm happy to say that I haven't been cold at night since.

Here are pictures of several Christmas wall hangings that I've made through the years.




Here is the Eleanor Burns Diamond Log Cabin Christmas tree skirt that I made when my oldest daughter was 6 months old. I also made my Mom and my MIL each one for Christmas that year. I put ruffles on theirs and cut the holes out and put ties on them. On mine I just wasn't able to cut a hole in it, so I didn't. I have very rarely used it for a skirt and most of the time it is on a table or thrown on a chair.


I quilted all of these projects myself and I did it with babies and young children running around. Also hubby traveled A LOT during this time. I must have done it in the evenings when the kids were sleeping. I do remember setting DD #1 on a blanket next to me and sewing up a storm. LOL She loves fabric and quilting now so it must have rubbed off on her early!

I also have 4 trees up this year, 1 big and 3 small Charlie Brown like trees. The silver tree has vintage ornaments on it from when I was young. That's weird to think that I'm vintage.




I think I'm running out of room, but I'll continue tomorrow. Enjoy the day!

Oh the weather outside is frightful, but the fire is so delightful.....

We had several big pretty fires in the fireplace in the last week. Wednesday night was really cold and very windy, but I was warm inside. No snow though, just that bitter Oklahoma wind. The weatherman just said that we might get snow next week, yeah!! I love it as long as I can stay inside and be cozy!

Not a bunch of sewing going on around here, but I have been decorating the house for Christmas. Just have the outside balls to hang and the Christmas village to put up, which is quite a job. Here are my favorite Christmas glasses, they are vintage but I'm not sure from when. Probably the 60's.



Sharon and I did have a great mini shop hop on Wednesday. We went to Prairie Quilts , The Savage Quilter
and Oklahoma Quiltworks. Very quick trip, but The Savage Quilter has 25% off of everything until today, I believe. We also signed up for a 2 day applique class at the end of January. I know how to applique but I just want to get really comfortable with it. The teacher is a fairly young woman and she uses all new techniques. I am looking forward to this class so much and so is Sharon , I think. I didn't buy very much, but I'll try to take pics later today to show everyone tomorrow.

Time to get busy or at least think about it.

Please don't judge me by my piles!

I just looked at the last posts picture and noticed the piles sitting everywhere. Things are a little bit in an upheaval at the moment with decorating and all. Also if you look closely you can see my SSCS present in the lower right hand corner, all set for going under the tree. I did open the card though, thanks Linda! And I need to sort some movies and put them away. Anyway, I do like some of my piles!!!

Chocolat....yummy!!!

Here's my latest quilt back from the LA quilters. I finished the top sometime last year but was hesitant to have it quilted because I was embarrassed?!?! I'm not sure why but I had so much trouble putting this quilt together. The pattern was from a magazine and I felt that nothing lined up like it was supposed to. I don't recall the name of the pattern right now, but the fabric is Chocolat by Moda, which was given to me for my birthday by my friend Sharon. I like the quilt now and it seems to look and lay fine. I had Linda use wool batting in it which is warm and snugly and washes like a dream. If anyone really wants to know the name of the pattern, leave me a comment and I'll search for it cause I know it's here somewhere.

I'm almost done decorating for Christmas, whew! I don't know why it takes me so long, maybe just the frequent trips up and down the stairs! I also had to deal with my on demand hot water heater going out yesterday, yuck. Then I walked in to work yesterday morning and it was 96 degrees in the store. I'd had some work done on the heater Monday because it hadn't worked for almost a week and was really cold, but he fixed it to well...LOL Actually it was the thermostat and just a coincidence, right... I still have my plumber coming today, so probably no sewing time again.
I desperately in need of sewing therapy right now!!!

Oh well, time to get busy!

Beautiful!!!

Or at least this proud mother thinks that her girls are beautiful!!! We had a great time with all of them here. Lots of noise and talking and yelling...lol...but nothing too serious! Emily will be home again right before Christmas for a couple of weeks, I think. Hopefully we'll all get some sewing time in because we didn't this trip.

Bedlam didn't go our way this year, darn. The crowd was just awful though, Sooners and Cowboys. People urinating in our parking lot all day long and even smoking weed out there. It was an OK day but I think everyone was more interested in partying than shopping. Glad it's in Norman next year.

I didn't get much sewing done yesterday, just finished up the December birthday siggies so I can get them in the mail today. Whew, I'm glad that obligation is done and I have enjoyed it tremendously and I've met some really nice people, but I don't plan on any commitments like that for 2009.

I did start decorating the house yesterday and my hubby helped. Will try to finish after work this week. Sure is a lot of work for just a month...lol. Every year I threaten not to do it and then I change my mind.
